Students
The Clinic offers students the opportunity to explore the practice of environmental law through work on a variety of litigation, administrative, legislative, and policy projects. Clinic offerings include federal, state, and local level projects covering the spectrum of environmental issues. Depending on the project, students may undertake litigation and advocacy work by drafting briefs, conducting legal research and preparing memoranda for clients, developing litigation strategy, and reviewing proposed regulations. Students present their work to clients, stakeholders, and decision-makers, including attorneys and non-attorneys alike. Working in small teams under the supervision of experienced practitioners, students also have opportunities for off-site placements with agencies and NGOs, while the accompanying seminar provides additional practical training in core skills for environmental law practice.
“I had a great experience with the Clinic not only due to the project I was matched to, but also thanks to the support of the clinical instructors and administrative staff…I’m grateful to have received such a fulsome and engaging learning experience from the Emmett Environmental Law & Policy Clinic, which has reinforced my conviction to pursue work at the junction of racial justice, human rights, and environmental advocacy.”
– Eric Zhao, JD’25
