Deputy Director Shaun Goho Presents at Citizen Science Webinars
The webinar also introduced the CSA’s new Law and Policy Working Group, which was established to foster discussion of both laws and policies that shape citizen science and the ways that citizen science can be used to influence law and policy. Shaun is a Co-Chair of this Working Group, along with fellow presenter, George Wyeth, Visiting Scholar at the Environmental Law Institute. The webinar was moderated by Dr. Lea Shanley, Senior Fellow, Nelson Institute, University of Wisconsin-Madison; and Steering Committee, CSA Law and Policy Working Group. In addition, Deputy Director Goho also participated in the Collecting and Reporting Evidence of Environmental Law Violations: Tools that Work for Citizens webinar on June 13, 2019, which focused on a critical component of environmental law enforcement: educating and empowering citizens in the U.S. and abroad. This webinar was presented as part of the 2019 International Network for Environmental Compliance and Enforcement Discussion Series, which has been examining how whistleblower laws, emerging technologies, and citizen engagement are transforming the landscape of environmental enforcement today. Shaun presented on the panel along with Stevie Lewis, Outreach Director at Public Lab, and John Kostyack, Executive Director of the National Whistleblower Center. LeRoy Paddock, Associate Dean for Environmental Studies at George Washington University Law School, served as the Moderator. An archived video of the webinar is available here.
